Marilyn and antelope statue on Antelope Island outside visitor centre. The 7 mile causeway to the island/state park is visible in the background. This causeway has two bridges to allow water to flow throughout the Great Salt Lake (GSL). The causeway/cutoff built by the railroad to the north does not have bridges. This restricts water flow resulting in the salt content being about 10 times the concentration of sea water on the north end of the GSL (~27% versus 3% for sea water) . They are installing bridges in the older causeway to help balance the salt concentration levels throughout the lake. As you can imagine, plant and aquatic life have been affected.
